Biography
Phil is a technology entrepreneur, software architect, angel investor and non‑executive director with extensive experience supporting data‑intensive and AI‑driven drug discovery and life‑science ventures. As an active angel investor, he backs and advises early‑stage biopharma, tech and biotech companies on strategy, raising investment, scale‑up and the effective use of data, cloud and AI in discovery and development.
Over more than two decades, Phil held senior leadership roles at Oracle, where he led global product engineering organisations building enterprise business intelligence and analytics products, and high‑performance cloud and AI infrastructure used by customers worldwide. He has deep expertise in applying AI and high‑performance cloud computing to life‑sciences research, supports multiple academic groups and spin‑outs in digital chemistry and life sciences, has co‑authored high‑impact publications, and provides coaching and mentoring to early‑stage founders.
Phil is an Associate Professor at the University of Bristol and recently completed a Royal Society Entrepreneur in Residence award, supporting chemistry, life‑sciences and synthetic biology teams to apply AI, high‑performance cloud computing and immersive technologies to drug discovery and to translate research into new ventures.
