Biography
Pete Adamson is currently Chief Scientific Officer at Breye Therapeutics ApS, a company dedicated to the creation of oral treatments for the early treatment of retinal disease. Pete was previously Vice President and Global Head of Retina at Janssen until February 2021, where he was in part responsible for gene-therapy programs directed at X-linked Retinitis Pigmentosa (XLRP), achromatopsia, and other monogenic retinal diseases, as well as leading the acquisition of AAV2-sCD59 for geographic atrophy age-related macular degeneration.
Prior to Janssen Pete was Senior Vice President Ophthalmology R&D at ProQR Therapeutics an oligonucleotide company specialising in the treatment of rare inherited ophthalmic disease, and was responsible for programs addressing Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis and Usher’s syndrome. Prior to ProQR, Pete was Vice President of Discovery Ophthalmology at GlaxoSmithKline’s Ophthalmology Discovery Performance Unit.
Pete gained a PhD in Biochemistry/neuroscience from the University of London before taking up an academic position at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology from 1994-2004. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications in the domains of inflammation, ophthalmology and neurology. Pete also retains an honorary appointment at UCL, Institute of Ophthalmology where he is Professor of Molecular Pathology.
